Entry formalities to Canada
The formalities for entering Canada for a stay of less than 6 months can be carried out directly via the Internet. It is not necessary to make an appointment at the Canadian embassy or consulate.
How long is the eTA valid?
After obtaining your eTA (electronic Travel Authorization) you can embark for Canada. Your electronic travel authorization is valid for five years, or until your passport expires. On the other hand, your length of stay on Canadian territory cannot exceed 6 months. You can, however, leave and re-enter Canada several times until the 6 months have expired.
Apply for an eTA instead of a Canadian visa
The eTA is valid for many travel purposes, ranging from tourism, transit, or business travel. If you are traveling to Canada for any of these reasons, you benefit from this travel authorization system that is easier than obtaining a visa. The procedures are carried out entirely via the Internet and are less expensive than obtaining a Canada visa. The eTA is the solution to easily and inexpensively travel to Canada.
Check your eTA Canada authorization
Most of the time, the eTA request over the Internet is validated in a few minutes. Sometimes the processing time may be longer. If your Electronic Travel Authorization is “pending” you will receive the response email from the Canadian administration (IRCC) within hours or days. Sometimes it is requested to provide additional supporting documents.
To follow the progress of the eTA on the Internet, you will need:
- The eTA request number communicated by email;
- Passport information of the traveler.
You can also find your eTA directly online and print it.
